A tweet from Upgrade Accessibility that reads: It’s past time to talk about the toll the pandemic has taken on the mental health of the disabled/ chronically ill community, especially those who are Black and brown. There is little to no access to mental healthcare, especially for those who are multi-marginalized.

Image Description:

The text of the instagram post reads: Four years ago, a hashtag and anger from denied access needs turned into a Disability Justice Movement.

The movement stated with asking those in the disabled community to share what access is like in the city, state, town, and/or country they lived in.

There were unanswered DMs and more nos than one can count when reaching out to ask others to share their story.

The focus of this movement has shifted and broadened.

Collective liberation and centering multiply marginalized voices are now at the center.

There are some who don’t understand or underestimate the work that goes into running this movement and creating content for social media.

They don’t understand the toll all this takes on mental health.

At times walking away from all of it is tempting.

This work isn’t easy.

This work for a brown disabled queer woman is that much harder.

But this isn’t about one woman or a one woman show.

Here’s to many more.
